Brilliant: MTV International’s pro-World Cup spots. More brands should try to connect with their audience—and its lifestyle—in ways that don’t push the product. (via Ad Age)
My friend Adam braved the rain and walked from Penn Station to Greenwich Village yesterday. This is what he found.
Cults — Go Outside
So this little retro-tinged twee-pop song is so much better on a sunny day, but it still manages to take the gloom out of the room, you know what I’m saying? (Spring, come back to us!) Download Cults full three-song EP for free here.
This is exactly where the feed froze when beloved online radio station WOXY.com was forced to cut its live feed this morning due to lack of funding. Like many music lovers, I am absolutely devastated, as the station’s carefully curated playlists have provided me with an effortless soundtrack to my day since college. (Plus I could always count on Mike and Shiv to boost my music I.Q. a few points between songs.)
R.I.P. friends. I hope you find the white knight you’re looking for to carry you back on air.
While in Austin last week, I had this conversation at least 25 times:
Randominternetdude: “Huh? What’s a print editor was doing at SXSW Interactive?”
Me: “Well, I guess that’s why this print editor is still a print editor, am I right? We probably wouldn’t be alive if we didn’t think about a story on every platform and every level.”
Here’s my boss speaking to the same point over at Mediabistro today.

Also: How good does having an apple pie blended into your McFlurry sound? (Right?!)
Foster the People — Pumped Up Kicks
To everyone else who, like me, has forgotten what summer looks/smells/tastes/feels/sounds like, I beg you: Listen to this song. Whistles. Handclaps. Catchy Chorus. Bass line that won’t quit.
Better? Yep, that’s what I thought. Now let’s all sit back, relax, and let the remixes start rolling in. (Can’t wait to check these guys out at SXSW: 3/17 @ Deli Mag party; 3/19 @ Rooftop Riot.)
Quick Sunday Morning Project:
My friend Amanda recently lost her mother after seeing her through a lengthy, grueling, ugly-as-hell illness. And since Amanda’s the card guru and the person we all turn to when we aren’t quite sure what to say, there was no way I could send her some crappy, regurgitated, store-bought message.
So I got out my x-acto knife and some scraps of textured craft paper and made her this, which my two best friends and I sent along with a scholarship donation in her mom’s memory. It was the absolute least I could do, but at least it’s something with a little substance.
